After announcing Canada’s new defense strategy for industries in Montreal, Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Terrebonne, a town on the outskirts where a byelection is forthcoming.
Recently, the Supreme Court overturned the outcome of the previous federal election in Terrebonne. Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné of the Bloc Québécois was reported to have lost by one vote to Liberal Tatiana Auguste. An overlooked Bloc Québécois ballot was the cause, attributed to an error by Elections Canada.
During his visit on Tuesday, Carney met with Auguste in Terrebonne. As they entered a restaurant, patrons erupted in applause, chanting “Tatiana!”
Earlier that day in Montreal, Carney praised Auguste’s dedication to the local community during a press event.
“She is deeply involved in the Terrebonne community, always present,” he commended.
Additionally, Carney conversed with Terrebonne Mayor Mathieu Traversy, who gifted the Prime Minister a jersey from the town’s hockey team.
Carney has yet to announce the date for the Terrebonne by-election; it must be scheduled within six months of the seat becoming vacant.
