Richmond Murder Shock: Local Man Faces Charges in Killing of 51-Year-Old Woman

The BC Prosecution Service laid charges against a Richmond man in the murder of a 51-year-old woman.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) said on Saturday that the 33-year-old alleged suspect is facing one count of second-degree murder.

According to Mounties, the victim was found with serious injuries at a home on Capstan Way and Sexsmith Road after officers responded to reports of an incident at around 10:40 a.m. on July 18.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Mounties added.

“Due to coordinated efforts between Richmond RCMP, IHIT, IFIS, BC Coroners Service, and the BC Prosecution Service, we were able to meet the charge approval standard for second-degree murder within 24 hours,” said Sgt. Freda Fong.

“However, there is still a lot of work to be done as we continue to support the victim’s grieving family and the prosecution process.”

IHIT said there is no ongoing risk to the public as this was an isolated incident, and information suggests the two were in a relationship.

Neither the victim nor the suspect had any police history related to intimate partner violence.
