A driver may have to face justice after a violent head-on collision that occurred Saturday in Saint-Georges, in the Beauce region.
Rescue workers were called at around 0:30 a.m. to the intersection of 16th Street and 1st Avenue Clermont-Pépin in this municipality of 34,000 inhabitants in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.
“According to initial information, the first vehicle travelling westbound collided with the vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light, eastbound. Following the impact, the vehicles would have hit a pole and they would also have caught fire,” said a spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Laurie Avoine.
The driver of the offending vehicle, a man in his thirties, was rescued and transported to hospital. He suffered significant injuries, but his life is no longer feared.
“As he could have been impaired during the event, blood samples were seized. He could face charges later in connection with the collision,” said the SQ spokesperson.
The driver of the other vehicle, a man in his twenties, was also transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
A collision scene reconstructionist from the Sûreté du Québec went to the scene to analyze the scene.
The SQ’s investigation is continuing.
