Collision injured two people in Montreal; Driver reportedly tried to flee

Two women in their twenties were injured after a car came into contact with a tree in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Villeray area of Montreal.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested after fleeing the scene of the accident.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m., the car, which was traveling northbound on Saint-Laurent Boulevard, crashed into a tree at the intersection of Crémazie Boulevard, according to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The vehicle then hit a pole and ended up against a concrete wall.

When they arrived, the police located only two passengers in the vehicle, the driver having fled. The two women, one aged 25 and the other 26, sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital. If doctors feared for the life of the first woman, her health condition improved during the day, according to the SPVM.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, was “quickly” located and then arrested by police for impaired driving. The latter was transported to a hospital, having also suffered injuries which, however, are not life-threatening. He will also have to have blood sampled, says the SPVM.

A perimeter has been erected around the crash site. An investigation is underway. Police have met with witnesses to the accident and will analyze surveillance camera footage near the scene as needed.
