The British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) says that it has reprimanded a White Rock dentist after he admitted to professional misconduct.
Dr. Robert Letnick was fined $10,000 in part for not treating a patient with “respect and dignity” by using his cell phone during an appointment and not maintaining patient records.
The provincial regulator launched an investigation into the dentist after it received three complaints from patients.
Letnick admitted to professional misconduct in an incident where he provided a root canal treatment “to a tooth that had an unretrievable broken file in the buccal canal,” which may have contributed to the root canal failing.
In a second instance, he “placed crowns on two teeth, when there was not enough tooth structure available.”
Another incident included the dentist prescribing opioid pain medication in a “frequency that was not in keeping with current practices.”
In addition to the fine, Dr. Letnick has to complete several online courses and modules, as well as at least two full-day case reviews by the BCCOHP.
