The Military Police Complaints Commission (MPCC) is investigating the events surrounding an active shooter exercise that went awry at a Canadian Forces base last fall, allegedly injuring and traumatizing an employee.
The exercise took place on Nov. 12 at Longue-Pointe, the Canadian Forces Base in Montreal.
An internal report states that military police mistook a civilian employee for an exercise participant and tackled him to the ground.
A union representative claims that the military police tore off his clothes, took out his wallet and dragged him outside in the middle of winter, without proper clothing.
Also according to the union, many civilian employees present that day were unaware of the exercise and believed they were witnessing a real attack.
Commission President Tammy Tremblay says the allegations are troubling and could constitute a violation of fundamental rights.
Dates for the hearing have not yet been set.
