Community Rallies to Bring Home Teen Tragically Slain Abroad: Urgent Fundraiser Launched

The family of the teenager, who was fatally stabbed near Robson Square just before midnight on Saturday, created a fundraiser asking for money to send the body of the 15-year-old boy to the country of Eritrea.

Even though officials have not yet formally identified the victim, the fundraiser mentions the teenager’s name.

“Please help send Sened Mussie’s body back to his homeland,” read the fundraiser that was posted on Selamfundme.com.

“With deep sorrow, we share the heartbreaking loss of our beloved son,” the fundraiser post said, which is written from the teenager’s parents’ perspective.

It says that the funds would help pay for the transportation and funeral costs.

“We are preparing to lay him to rest in Eritrea and kindly ask for your support to help cover funeral and travel expenses,” read the post.

The fundraiser post described the teenager as a “kind, joyful, and compassionate boy whose bright smile touched many lives.”

Before it ends with the names of the post’s authors, the fundraiser’s text expresses gratitude for donations and help in other forms.

“Your prayers, donations, and shares mean so much during this painful time,” the post read.

A similar post was published in the Eritrean Community Association in Vancouver group on Facebook with the link to the Selam Fund Me fundraiser.

The Facebook post urges the Eritrean community to support the family.

“We kindly ask all community members to stand with the family in their time of grief. Let us come together in love and solidarity to support them,” said the post on Facebook.
