Quebecers will not have to turn to the French-produced version to watch the popular show “The Simpsons” in French.
Bell Media confirmed Monday it has reached an agreement with Disney Entertainment to continue dubbing the series in Quebec, as reported by “Le Soleil” last week.
The new episodes will air on Noovo, which has been broadcasting reruns of previous seasons for several years, and will be available for catch-up viewing on the Crave streaming platform.
In a press release, Bell Media emphasized that this agreement “ensures that Quebec audiences will continue to hear the familiar Quebec accent and expressions of the characters they have loved for years.”
The dubbing of “The Simpsons” had to be interrupted last August when Teletoon, a children’s channel owned by Corus Entertainment, chose not to renew the broadcast rights to the series.
This decision was widely criticized. The Quebec version of “The Simpsons” is dubbed by local actors, but it is also adapted with cultural references specific to Quebec. It is therefore quite different from the version produced in France.
The 36th season, whose dubbing was interrupted last year, will air this fall on Noovo, which will also continue to broadcast previous seasons.
“The Simpsons” is also available in English on the Disney+ platform, where seasons 1 through 35, dubbed in Quebec, can be found.
