Surrey police have arrested two men in connection with an extortion-related shooting last month.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says it responded to a residence on 87A Avenue near 134 Street around 12:40 a.m. on April 22.
Officers confirmed damage to the home and a vehicle.
“Although the residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, thankfully, no one was injured,” said an SPS statement.
That day, the SPS Extortion Response team took over investigating.
In an update Wednesday, police said investigators have since carried out a search warrant in Surrey, resulting in the arrest of two men.
Twenty-two-year-old Damanjeet Singh and 30-year-old Pardaman Singh, both foreign nationals, have been charged with one count each of discharging a firearm into a place knowing or being reckless as to whether someone was present, and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence.
Police say the men remain in custody.
Damanjeet Singh is expected back in court on May 19. Pardaman Singh is expected back in court on June 1.
The SPS says it is taking the additional step of releasing photos of the men to help advance investigations into suspected violent extortion.
Neither man has been charged with an extortion offence.
“SPS hopes that the public release of these images of Damanjeet Singh and Pardaman Singh prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information.”
Anyone with information on their activities is asked to contact the SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.
The SPS says suspect photos will be released on a case-by-case basis if disclosure is necessary to further an investigation into a current crime or series of crimes.
