The race for spokesperson for Québec solidaire (QS), which will aim to find the person who will replace Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, will officially begin on Aug. 15.
The party confirmed key dates for the race on Thursday, which will culminate in the announcement of the winner on Nov. 8 at the party’s congress.
Candidates will have until Sept. 14 to submit their nomination papers. The application must contain 500 valid signatures, and a $10,000 deposit will be required to cover goods and services provided by the party.

During the race, candidates will be able to spend up to $60,000, according to rules set by the party.
A “national event” bringing together all candidates will be organized during the week of Oct. 5.
If they wish to have the right to vote in the election, QS supporters will have until Oct. 9 to become members of the party.
The race will aim to elect the person who will replace Nadeau-Dubois, who left his role as spokesperson last March.
Under the QS statutes, which were recently updated, any member—not just men—can stand in this election.
QS only specifies in its internal election policy that “one of the two positions is reserved for a woman.” This condition is already met, since Ruba Ghazal is currently the other spokesperson.
So far, four candidates—four men—have confirmed they will be in the starting lineup. They are MNAs Sol Zanetti and Etienne Grandmont, former Regional Director of Public Health for Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine Yv Bonnier-Viger, and activist Geru Schneider.
The member for Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne, Guillaume Cliche-Rivard, is acting as spokesperson, which means he cannot enter the race.
