Quebec racing enthusiast wins $12.5M Lotto Max draw

Loto-Québec says Shawn Batten, from Montérégie, is the latest millionaire in the province after winning $12,500,000 in the May 19 Lotto Max draw.

Batten reportedly purchased his lottery ticket through Loto-Québec’s app and was able to check his win right away. Once that was done, he reportedly called his spouse, who initially thought he was joking! “I’m in a meeting, and all the team can hear you… You’re not joking right now, are you?” she asked him.

The racing enthusiast picked up his prize at the Casino de Montréal and was able to admire an F1 car that was used by racing legend Michael Schumacher in the process.

Batten says he plans to continue working, but his winnings will allow him to spend more time with his interests.

“Travel is in the cards for sure. Thanks to my daughter, I’ve discovered photography, so I think I’ll be able to spend more time doing that… and maybe buy a cottage too,” said Batten in a statement.

Isabelle Jean, Loto-Québec’s Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games, in a statement, “With this latest win, we’ve now awarded 40 prizes of $1 million or more since the start of 2026. And behind these wins are 40 or so Québec families whose lives and futures have been positively impacted by the lottery. Loto-Québec benefits the people of Québec in so many ways—and this is one of them.”
