Mysterious Medical Crisis Claims Life on Squamish River

A man has died after what is believed to have been a medical event while on the Squamish River, Mounties say.

Police say that shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, they were notified of an unresponsive man found on the river, just west of the Squamish airport near the Cheakamus River.

Emergency crews located him and started life-saving measures, but he did not survive.

“Based on the information received, two individuals were operating personal watercrafts on the river when they became separated,” the BC RCMP said.

“Upon relocating the second rider, the first individual found him unresponsive with his PFD keeping him afloat and pulled him to shore.”

Police and the BC Coroners Service are still investigating to confirm the circumstances around the man’s death.
