Environment Canada issues tornado watch for Prince George

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a tornado watch for Prince George.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which may produce tornadoes, says Environment Canada.

Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible.

Tornadoes are dangerous and potentially life-threatening, states Environment Canada.

Significant damage or destruction to infrastructure, homes and the natural environment is possible.

In the event of a tornado, go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell, or interior closet, instructs Environment Canada.

Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers, and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building.

As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris, instructs Environment Canada.

Environment Canada says if you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take cover immediately.
