The Vancouver Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) says two people were injured in a fire at a low-rise apartment building near the University of British Columbia’s West Point Grey campus Tuesday afternoon.
Captain Matt Trudeau with the service says crews responded to calls of a fire at an Acadia Road building just after 2:30 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, the smoke was billowing from the building.
Trudeau says some residents had made their way to the roof and had to be rescued from there.
“A number of people went to the roof and required rescue from the roof with ladders,” Trudeau told CityNews.

In total, firefighters rescued 3 people from the roof with ground ladders.
Trudeau said they sent fire crews door to door to make sure nobody else was left inside.
The two people who were injured suffered from burns and smoke inhalation.
The fire has been knocked down.
Investigators at the scene determined that the fire was accidental, caused by a candle used for drug use.
