Montreal will provide an update, including on “arrests that have just been made,” in the investigation into the police shooting of a teenager on the city’s South Shore last September.
Nooran Rezayi, 15, was shot and killed on Sept. 21, 2025, by a Longueuil police officer.
Police were responding to a 911 call about a group of youths reportedly armed in a residential neighbourhood of Longueuil. Quebec’s police watchdog said the only gun seized at the scene belonged to the officer who shot Rezayi.
A $2.2-million lawsuit filed by Rezayi’s family against the City of Longueuil and its police force claims the teenager was shot about 10 seconds after officers arrived at the scene. It alleges police used unreasonable and disproportionate force when they opened fire.
Concerns were raised by Quebec’s independent police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), because Longueuil police waited 96 minutes before notifying the agency of Rezayi’s death.
Chief Insp. David Shane with the SPVM will lead Tuesday’s 3 p.m. press conference.
