“Scorching Sun and Soaring Temperatures Set to Dominate Construction Holiday, Air Quality Deteriorates Further”

Montrealers on vacation can soak up the sun and heat but will get a little break over the coming days.

Wednesday brought sun in the morning, then a mix of sun and cloud expected with a 40 per cent chance of showers early this afternoon.

A high of 26°C, feeling more like 31°C with the humidex. An UV index of eight or very high.

Tonight, partly cloudy with a low of 17°C.

The city is once again experiencing significantly poor air quality, with IQAir ranking the city as having the 20th worst air quality in the world as of Wednesday morning.

On July 26, Montreal topped that list due to smoke from wildfires in the Canadian Prairies drifting eastward.

The monitoring site gave the city an index of 83 as of 10:30 a.m., which is “moderate” for your health.

Environment Canada says those most vulnerable include people with existing health conditions, seniors, pregnant women, infants, and young children, and that they should avoid strenuous outdoor activities and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms. 

If air quality is weak, officials say people should keep windows and doors closed as much as possible while indoors. Wearing N95 masks outdoors can reduce exposure to fine particles, the agency says.

Thursday will be more comfortable with cloudy skies and a high of 23°C, clearing in the evening with a low of 14°C.

Friday, sunny again with a mild high of 23°C and clear skies for the evening and a low of 15°C.

The final weekend of construction holiday looks to be a nice one.

Saturday’s forecast calling for more sun and a high of 26°C and a low of 19°C.

Sunday, another hot and sunny day in store for Montrealers, as temperatures climb to a high of 30°C and then clouds moving in with a low of 18°C.

Mix of sun and clouds expected to start the next week.
