A 24-year-old man was found dead in Lac-Saint-Jean Monday after he went missing while swimming in Saint-Henri-de-Taillon, bringing the total drownings in the province so far this year to 30.
Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said a 911 call was received around 2:45 pm. reporting a missing swimmer at a campsite near Île Belley.

“According to our information, there were several people swimming when one of them disappeared underwater and has not been seen since,” said SQ spokesperson Nancy Fournier. “At the scene, there were several lifeguards as well as the fire department, who began the search immediately.”
Around 9:45 p.m. SQ divers recovered the body of the 24-year-old.
“So far, everything suggests that this was, in fact, an accidental death,” Fournier added.
The coroner’s investigation is ongoing.
In a social media post, Camping et Plage Belley confirmed that the death occurred at their site and expressed condolences to the family of the victim.
The death of the 24-year-old brings the total drownings in the province so far in 2026 to 30, in line with last year’s levels.
