Toronto Man, 37, Faces Manslaughter Charges Over Fatal Opioid Overdose

A man from Toronto has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a 37-year-old individual from St. Catharines due to a drug overdose earlier this year.

In response to a sudden death report, officers from the Niagara Regional Police Service were dispatched to a residence at the intersection of Lloyd Street and Rykert Street on January 28, 2026.

Following the suspicion of a fatal drug overdose, detectives initiated an investigation into potential criminal activities and drug trafficking linked to the victim’s passing.

On Monday, law enforcement officials apprehended a suspect during a traffic stop, later identified as 37-year-old Anthony Clarke from Toronto. Clarke is facing multiple charges related to the overdose incident, including manslaughter and two counts of trafficking controlled substances (cocaine and fluorofentanyl).

Moreover, Clarke has been charged with additional drug trafficking offenses and possession of proceeds from criminal activities exceeding $5,000 following a search that uncovered a significant quantity of suspected fentanyl, cocaine, and hydromorphone pills.

He is currently in custody and was set to appear for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
