“Grim Reaper on Wheels: Quebec’s White Hearse Crusade for Road Safety Awareness”

During the busy construction holidays in Quebec, a striking white hearse is touring the province to promote safe driving habits. This unique initiative by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) aims to raise awareness among motorists about the risks of reckless behavior on the roads.

The hearse, covered in white vinyl, serves as a symbolic reminder of the consequences of dangerous driving. Citizens in various Quebec cities can participate by signing the vehicle as a commitment to drive safely, creating a “mobile contract.”

Starting its journey in Montreal, the hearse will make stops in Quebec City, Saguenay, Rimouski, Trois-Rivières, Saint-Sauveur, and other locations. Simon-Pierre Poulin, the SAAQ spokesperson, emphasized the importance of the hearse as a powerful symbol to highlight the potential dangers of distractions, speeding, and impaired driving.

Poulin highlighted the alarming statistics of road fatalities during the construction holidays, with 35 deaths reported last year in Quebec alone, nearly doubling the previous years’ toll. He urged motorists to take preventive actions, such as avoiding distractions like cell phones, as speeding is a major factor in road accidents during this period.

In addition to motorists, the message also extends to motorcyclists, with Poulin stressing the significance of proper protective gear and safe speed limits to prevent accidents. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has pledged increased interventions on the road network to ensure safety during the construction holidays, which continue until August 2.

As Quebecers gear up for summer travel, the SAAQ and SQ are urging everyone to prioritize safety on the roads to prevent avoidable tragedies.

Keyphrase: Safe driving habits.
