The cause of a major fire that took place in downtown Montreal on Tuesday will be investigated by the SPVM.
The fire department was called to the building, which houses shops on the ground floor and apartments above, at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine and Towers streets at 2 a.m.

Police say the damage is extensive to the old building and the structure is unstable.
Firefighters evacuated and rescued the residents who were then taken in by the Red Cross. No injuries were reported.
Police say the building was barricaded and returned to the owner, Amcor Holdings.
The cause of the fire still remains unknown. Police are asking anyone with information to contact their local station.
