Kyle Lowry, the iconic figure behind the Toronto Raptors’ remarkable journey from obscurity to NBA champions, is set to receive the ultimate honor with his No. 7 jersey being retired at Scotiabank Arena on January 10, as officially announced by the team.
The ceremony will take place after the game against the Philadelphia 76ers, symbolically connecting Lowry’s roots in Philadelphia with his profound impact as a cultural symbol in Toronto.
Lowry will join a select group, becoming only the second player in Raptors’ history to have his number raised to the rafters, following in the footsteps of Vince Carter, whose No. 15 was immortalized in November 2024.
Over his nine seasons in Toronto, the six-time All-Star led the Raptors to numerous achievements, including three top finishes in the regular season, seven playoff appearances, two Eastern Conference Finals, and the historic 2019 NBA championship.
Expressing his deep connection with the city, Lowry stated, “Toronto is my home, and I always knew I would retire as a Raptor. Seeing my No. 7 jersey up there will hold immense significance for me. Together, we built something extraordinary and achieved the ultimate success.”
In recognition of Lowry’s enduring legacy, the Raptors have planned a weekend celebration to honor the point guard who epitomized the team’s spirit for nearly a decade. Fans will have multiple opportunities to pay tribute to the player who left an indelible mark on the franchise.
Additionally, the team will launch a special contest, granting one lucky fan tickets to all three GROAT Nights, with further details to be disclosed on Raptors’ social media platforms.
