The suspect in the recent bomb threat incident at the U.S. Consulate in Halifax is not yet prepared to request bail, according to his lawyer.
Ali Assakereh, who was apprehended on August 10 for allegedly leaving a propane tank and flammable substances in his vehicle near the consulate, leading to the closure of a portion of downtown Halifax, is currently facing multiple charges, including a terrorism-related offense involving threats against internationally protected individuals.
During a recent court appearance, Assakereh’s legal counsel mentioned that they are collaborating with the accused’s family on a bail strategy, but it will require additional time to be finalized. As a result, Assakereh has agreed to remain in custody until the bail plan is ready, with his lawyer committed to informing the court of any developments regarding his bail application.
Assakereh is set to return to court on September 10 to enter a plea and disclose his preferred trial format.
