The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) has announced that its long-serving director and CEO, Stephan Jost, will be stepping down at the end of this year. Jost, who has held the position for a decade, is credited with overseeing the acquisition of significant art collections, including a recent donation of 450 works by Carol and Morton Rapp.
Under Jost’s leadership, the AGO embarked on a project to expand its gallery space by 40,000 square feet, with the new area set to open next year. Despite these achievements, the gallery faced controversy earlier this year when it decided against acquiring work by photographer Nan Goldin, known for her criticism of Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
The AGO has stated that a global search will be conducted to find a suitable replacement for Jost.
