“Locke Defies Change Demand, Leads Surrey Mayoral Race as Election Day Looms: Latest Poll Reveals”

Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke is maintaining a significant lead as the election day approaches, despite a majority of residents expressing a desire for change, as per a recent poll.

According to the Canada Pulse Insights poll, commissioned by CityNews OMNI TV, Locke enjoys the backing of 33% of decided voters, giving her a comfortable 17-percentage-point advantage over her main rivals. Former mayor Doug McCallum of the Safe Surrey Coalition and Linda Annis of Surrey First are both tied at 16%.

The survey indicates that Locke’s opponents have not been able to unite support behind a single alternative candidate, even though 53% of residents are keen on a new mayor. On the other hand, 47% feel that Locke should be re-elected.

Furthermore, Mike Starchuk of Imagine Surrey has 12% support, followed by Troy Van-Vliet of SURREY NOW at 10% and Honveer Singh Randhawa of the Conservative Electors Association with 8%. Meanwhile, 10% of voters remain undecided.

Canada Pulse Insights CEO John Wright noted, “The lack of a clear challenger is evident in the fragmented field. With an approval rating in the 40s, especially in the upper 30s or mid-30s, it could be sufficient for victory.”

Wright added, “The divided field positions Locke favorably, giving her a better chance of winning on election day than any other candidate.”

Locke is receiving positive feedback for her tenure as mayor, with 63% of respondents approving of her performance, while 37% hold a negative view.

Over half of Surrey residents (56%) believe the city is progressing in the right direction, contrasting with 44% who perceive it on the wrong path.

The poll outcomes underscore Locke’s lead, favorable job ratings, and the lack of a consolidated opposition, positioning her strongly as the election nears. However, the presence of undecided voters introduces an element of unpredictability to the final outcome.
