Liberal Chief Rolls Out New Opposition Team in National Assembly Showdown

On the cusp of the inauguration of his MNAs, Quebec Liberal Party (QLP) leader Charles Milliard introduced his official opposition team in the National Assembly on Sunday.

André Fortin was appointed as House Leader, a role he held as the QLP’s parliamentary leader before Milliard assumed the party leadership last February.

Madwa-Nika Cadet will serve as the chief whip, Filomena Rotiroti as the caucus chair, and Julie White as the deputy leader.

Following the October 5 election, the QLP maintained its official opposition status, increasing its MNA count from 18 to 40.

A recount is currently underway in the Vachon riding, where Liberal Affine Lwalalika secured a narrow victory over PQ candidate Stephan Fogaing with a ten-vote margin.

The Liberal MNAs are set to be sworn in on Monday at the National Assembly, succeeding their PQ counterparts who took their oath a few days earlier.

The elected officials of Québec solidaire will be sworn in on Tuesday, with Conservative MPs following suit on Thursday.

The Parti Québécois’ Cabinet composition will be disclosed on Wednesday.
