Key Witness Sheds New Light in Dramatic Trial of Suspect Behind Pearson Gold Heist

During the trial of Parmpal Sidhu in Brampton, Ontario, Arsalan Chaudhary, a key figure in the Toronto Pearson airport gold heist, revealed that he had communication with the accused on the day of the theft. Chaudhary, who had previously been sentenced to four years in prison for his involvement in the heist, testified that he informed Sidhu about the readiness of the truck and driver for the operation, to which Sidhu responded affirmatively.

Chaudhary, who had pleaded guilty to theft over $5,000 and was ordered to pay $22 million in restitution, shared details about planning the heist with an accomplice who is currently evading authorities. He disclosed that he managed to obtain 30% of the gold bars from the heist, some of which he melted down before being kidnapped and coerced into revealing the whereabouts of the loot in Pakistan.

The allegations against Sidhu, a former Air Canada employee, involve providing a falsified waybill that facilitated the pickup of over $22 million worth of gold and currency from a cargo bay at Pearson airport. The heist, which saw the theft of 6,600 gold bars weighing over 400 kilograms from a shipment arriving from Switzerland on April 17, 2023, has drawn significant attention and legal proceedings.
