Montreal Police Seek Suspect and Witnesses in Homophobic Attack in the Village
Montreal authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect and two witnesses following a disturbing incident in the city’s Village district earlier this summer. According to the SPVM, on the night of July 9 at Sainte-Catherine Street East and Saint-Christophe Street, two individuals, one of whom is a member of the LGBTQ2+ community, were targeted with homophobic slurs and pepper sprayed while dining at a restaurant.
The victims reported that a group of three individuals verbally harassed them with homophobic language inside the restaurant before following them outside. The main suspect, a man in his 20s who speaks French, allegedly escalated the situation by wielding a metal baton and spraying cayenne pepper spray at the victims.
Described as approximately five-foot-11 with medium-length dark hair, the suspect was wearing a light-gray shirt, gray pants, white sneakers, and a black crossbody bag at the time of the attack. Authorities have released a video of the incident along with photographs of the suspect and the two witnesses accompanying him.
