An alarming road incident in South Vancouver resulted in the arrest of a man after a reported case of road rage escalated on Tuesday.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) swiftly responded to a distress call around noon at the intersection of Fraser Street and East 45th Avenue. The incident unfolded when a woman slowed down for a speed bump, leading to a man trailing her vehicle closely in an aggressive manner.
According to police reports, the man overtook the woman’s car from the left, abruptly stopped in front of her, and approached her driver’s side window. Shockingly, the woman claimed that the man brandished a black gun, pointing it menacingly at her before quickly driving away from the scene.
In a coordinated effort, the VPD’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and surveillance units located the suspect’s vehicle parked near Knight Street and East 57th Avenue. Observing a man matching the suspect’s description walking away from the car and discarding an object on Knight Street, the authorities swiftly intervened.
After a brief confrontation, the suspect attempted to flee but was promptly intercepted by the ERT just a block away. Upon investigation, officers discovered a BB gun in the vicinity where the suspect had discarded an object.
The apprehended individual, identified as 45-year-old Rahat Arshad Ali, now faces multiple charges including assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a dangerous weapon, and using an imitation firearm during the commission of an offense.
Ali is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing as the investigation into the alarming road rage incident continues.
