One of the best parts about coming to the PNE fair is trying out all the wacky, trendy, unheard of food combinations — and this year, there are over a dozen new menu items.
This means: Less talking, let’s get to eating!
“My favourite B.C. berry is the blueberry, so coming to the fair, I thought what better way to focus on B.C.,” said Chef Andy Chong from Cheeky Italian.
“We have got this beautiful B.C. blueberry mascarpone pizza for you to enjoy.”
The theme this year is ‘All things Canadian!’
Vendors were proud to show off their new inventions made from locally sourced ingredients.
“We have about 10 new vendors. But 100 per cent of the food vendors at this year’s fair are Canadian and Canadian families,” explained PNE spokesperson Laura Balance.
“It is something we are really proud of.”

Also on the menu: Quintessential fair foods with a fusion flair — like this corn dog made with an ube batter.
“You’re getting a sweet yam to it. If anyone has ever had sweet potatoes, you get an earthy sweet flavour to it. But we enhance it with icing sugar and Japanese rice wine vinegar,” said Jason Faria, owner and operator of the Corndog King.
At Rotato Potato, they have put an Asian twist on the Canadian classic poutine.
Instead of gravy and cheese curds on the bed of fries, it’s Japanese beef curry on top of shredded cheese.
“In this part of the world, we are known for food, and our fair is very unlike most in North America,” said spokesperson Balance.
“Maybe you wouldn’t walk into a restaurant of a particular ethnicity, but you come here and see it and smell it and try it and realize how much you love it.”
“Whether you’re in the mood for some Dubai chocolate funnel cake, apple crumble perogies, or want to pop into a cooking demonstration with indigenous chefs, there is something for everyone at the PNE fair, which runs until September 1.
