“Construction of Controversial Highway 413 to Begin Imminently, Ford Announces—Costs and Timeline Still Under Wraps”

Construction on the Highway 413 project is about to kick off in the coming days, as confirmed by Ontario Premier Doug Ford. While exact cost and completion dates remain uncertain, Ford emphasized the necessity of the project during a recent announcement in Caledon.

Minister of Transportation Prabmeet Sarkaria, who stepped in to address the details, stressed the significant implications of not proceeding with the construction. The first two construction contracts for the 52-kilometre highway linking Highway 400 in Vaughan with Highway 401 in Mississauga have been awarded to Fermar Paving and Pave-Al for specific tasks.

Once operational, Highway 413 is expected to significantly reduce commute times by up to 30 minutes each way, create over 6,000 jobs annually, and boost Ontario’s GDP by more than $1 billion. Ford reiterated the importance of this project in alleviating traffic congestion in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Ontario.

Despite the positive outlook, the project has faced opposition from environmentalists concerned about the impact on farmland and endangered species along the route.
