Ontario Launches Groundbreaking Initiative to Provide Free RSV Vaccines to Seniors 75 and Up This Fall

Ontario to Provide Free RSV Vaccine for Seniors Over 75 Starting This Fall
Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones has announced that starting this fall, seniors in Ontario aged 75 and above will have access to a free vaccine to protect against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The program aims to safeguard seniors as they face the upcoming respiratory illness season.

Currently, the publicly funded immunization program offers RSV shots to high-risk adults aged 60 to 74, infants up to eight months old during their first RSV season, and high-risk children up to two years old in their second RSV season. Pregnant women also have the option to receive the RSV vaccine to help protect newborns.

Jones mentioned that detailed information on where families can obtain the vaccine will be communicated in the following weeks. RSV, which presents cold-like symptoms, can escalate to severe respiratory conditions in infants, young children, and seniors.
