Toronto Zoo Unveils Charming Names for Adorable New Furry Friends

The Toronto Zoo recently introduced two adorable new additions to their family, a pair of nine-month-old Scottish Highland cattle brothers. These fluffy brothers are named Blue and Jay, paying homage to the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. The cattle were brought to the zoo from a local Ontario farm and have been gradually settling into their new home. Jay, the smaller and braver of the two, is quick to engage in training sessions and eagerly accepts snacks from the care team. On the other hand, Blue, the larger brother with a shy demeanor, is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable interacting with the team. Despite their differences, the brothers are inseparable and enjoy doing everything together.

After completing a quarantine period, there are plans for Blue and Jay to make their public debut at the zoo soon. They are expected to join the Outreach & Discovery team, possibly participating in interactive encounters as part of the zoo’s ambassador animal walking programs. While the team is still working on training them, both brothers are showing progress with hand feeding and target training, which is promising.

Visitors can currently observe Blue and Jay in their new habitat located near the Eurasia Wilds Zoomobile station. These Scottish Highland cattle are among the oldest registered cattle breeds globally, originating from the Scottish Highlands and Western islands of Scotland. Renowned for their long horns, thick coats, and docile nature, the brothers are sure to capture the hearts of all who encounter them.
