A dump truck collision on the Crowsnest Highway led to a spill of coal into a river, as a driver from Chilliwack faces charges for the incident. The crash involved the truck jackknifing into its own trailer and hitting a BMW sedan with two occupants from North Vancouver and Burnaby. Fortunately, the individuals in the sedan only suffered minor injuries.
The BMW was severely damaged, and the coal from the dump truck ended up in the Skagit River. The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) reported that the Ministry of Environment is overseeing the cleanup process in coordination with the truck company.
According to investigators, excessive speed played a role in the accident. Consequently, a 39-year-old Chilliwack man received a ticket for driving without due care and attention, resulting in a $368 fine and six license penalty points.
Cpl. Michael McLaughlin emphasized the importance of commercial drivers operating with increased caution due to their vehicles’ size and weight, urging all drivers to prioritize safety on the roads.
