The Surrey community remains anxious as Kaps Café, owned by renowned Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, was recently targeted in two separate shooting incidents this summer. Bullet holes now mark the windows and walls of the café, situated at the intersection of 120 Street and 85 Avenue.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is actively investigating the shootings but has not made any arrests yet. Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton emphasized ongoing communication with residents and business owners in the affected areas, urging cooperation in solving the incidents.
City Coun. Linda Annis expressed concern for the nervous residents, particularly within the South Asian community, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the community and law enforcement. She encouraged individuals with relevant information to step forward, even anonymously, to assist in the investigations.
SPS reiterated the importance of community involvement and highlighted the risks posed by withholding information. Both shootings occurred while employees were inside the café, underscoring the urgency of resolving the situation before anyone gets hurt.
The incidents coincide with a rise in extortion threats targeting businesses and individuals in the South Asian community in Surrey. While no direct link to these threats has been established, investigators are considering all possibilities.
