“François Legault to Face Intense Scrutiny at Gallant Commission Over SAAQclic Debacle This Tuesday”

Quebec Premier François Legault is set to testify at a public inquiry regarding the SAAQclic controversy, where significant cost overruns have occurred. The commission, led by Judge Denis Gallant, aims to uncover how the platform’s design led to a staggering $500 million in additional expenses.

Recent statements from Legault indicate his dissatisfaction with the unfolding situation surrounding SAAQclic since the inquiry began. He emphasized his decision to initiate the public examination to ensure transparency and inform Quebec residents about the events that transpired.

The commission seeks to ascertain Legault’s level of awareness during the platform’s development, with reports suggesting that his office was alerted to potential cost overruns as early as 2020. Despite this, Legault maintains he was unaware of these issues.

Following the Premier’s testimony, other key figures including former Secretary General Yves Ouellet and Chief of Staff Martin Koskinen are also scheduled to testify this week. The Auditor General of Quebec estimates that the digital transition at the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec, encompassing the SAAQclic project, will involve costs exceeding $1.1 billion.
