Quebec has welcomed its newest millionaire as Claude Boucher secures the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot prize of $46,000,000 on August 27. Boucher, a dedicated employee at Cégep de Victoriaville hailing from the Bois-Francs region in Centre-du-Québec, has been faithfully playing the same lucky Lotto 6/49 numbers for years. His life changed when he purchased the winning ticket via the Loto-Québec website.
Upon discovering his win, Boucher shared his initial shock, “I was scrolling quickly and I thought, ‘$46,000 isn’t too bad! But what are all those zeros? Oh, it’s $46,000,000.’” He double-checked the numbers in his email the following day and waited a few hours before breaking the news to his wife. With dreams of early retirement and a nostalgic trip back to Switzerland where he and his wife resided in the 80s, Boucher is looking forward to enjoying his newfound wealth.
In a stroke of luck for Quebec, Boucher wasn’t the sole winner in the final days of August. Isabelle Jean, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games at Loto-Québec, expressed, “The last week of August was exceptionally lucky for Quebecers!” Apart from Boucher’s jackpot win, two winners in Quebec scooped the Grande Vie lottery game top prize of $1,000 a day for life, adding to the celebratory atmosphere in the region.
