Over 40,000 Quebec Homes Remain Without Power After Severe Weather
Early Friday morning, more than 40,000 households across Quebec were still without electricity due to power outages caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds the day before. Hydro-Québec reported that around 42,000 customers were impacted at 5:30 a.m., a number that had climbed to about 71,000 by 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Lanaudière region suffered the most, with approximately 17,000 addresses experiencing power loss, while the Laurentians and other areas like Montreal, Montérégie, Mauricie, Capitale-Nationale, and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean were also affected.
Inclement weather, including rain and thunderstorms, led to gusts of up to 70 km/h in some parts of the province late Thursday. Hydro-Québec has assured the public that they are working diligently to restore power to affected areas promptly.
Looking ahead, Montrealers should prepare for more rain over the weekend, with Friday starting off sunny and warm with a high of 23°C (feeling like 26°C with humidity). Saturday may see a return of cloudy skies and a 60% chance of afternoon showers with temperatures dropping to 17°C. Sunday is expected to bring clearer skies and sunshine with a high of 20°C.
