Niagara Regional Police have successfully apprehended a suspected armed individual who was at large on Monday morning, bringing an end to a brief shelter-in-place situation.
The Niagara police sent out a public alert shortly after 9 a.m. concerning a man believed to be armed and driving a white 2009 Ford Ranger in the vicinity of Concession Road 2 and Centre Road in West Lincoln.
Described as a 38-year-old white male standing around six feet tall with a beard and shaggy hair, the man’s potential possession of a weapon was a cause for concern, though specific details about the weapon were not provided.
After abandoning the vehicle and continuing on foot, the suspect prompted police to urge the public to steer clear of the area near Caistorville and Bismark roads close to Highway 20 in West Lincoln. Residents were advised to shelter in place, securing their residences and vehicles.
By approximately 10:30 a.m., the individual had been taken into custody, with law enforcement confirming that there was no longer any risk to public safety.
It remains uncertain whether the man was found with a weapon or what charges he may face, with police continuing their presence in the area awaiting further details.
