Montreal’s Own NBA Star Bennedict Mathurin Honored with Prestigious National Assembly Medal

Bennedict and Jennifer Mathurin Honored for Community Service Efforts

Montreal native Bennedict Mathurin, a rising star in the NBA Eastern Conference, and his sister Jennifer Mathurin, a former Division-1 basketball player, were recognized for their exceptional community service with the Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec on Monday.

The prestigious award was presented by Liberal MNA Madwa-Nika Cadet and Montreal-North Mayor Christine Black, in the presence of community leaders, family, friends, and colleagues. According to a statement from the Mathurin Family Foundation, the siblings were celebrated for their outstanding contributions.

Jennifer Mathurin, who is the Founder and President of the Mathurin Family Foundation, expressed the importance of the recognition, stating, “This medal is a reminder of why we do this work. It’s about showing young people that they are seen, valued, and capable of achieving their dreams.”

Bennedict Mathurin also shared his gratitude, saying, “Montreal-North raised me. It’s a privilege to give back to the place that shaped who I am, and show kids here that their dreams are possible.”

The award ceremony took place during the third-annual basketball camp at Henri-Bourassa High School, which attracted 150 youth from Montreal-North. The camp, originally a grassroots project initiated by the Mathurin Foundation, has now gained support from major brands like Adidas, St-Hubert, Gatorade, CLIF, and Beats.
