Longueuil Transit System Reaches Agreement with Bus Drivers’ Union
The Longueuil Transit System (RTL) has successfully renewed the collective agreement with its 731 bus drivers following a tentative settlement reached through mediation. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local branch, affiliated with the FTQ, made the announcement on Wednesday, indicating that the specifics of the agreement will remain confidential until union members have had the opportunity to review and ratify it at a general meeting.
Furthermore, the tentative settlement has averted an imminent strike by the bus drivers. Previously, a strike had been planned for this week but was preemptively called off after the Administrative Labor Tribunal intervened, deeming the proposed essential services by the union insufficient. Despite warnings from the bus drivers’ union about issuing a new strike notice, as of Tuesday, no such action had been taken.
With the majority of union members voting in favor of pressure tactics, including the possibility of a strike, the agreement represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing negotiations between the RTL and its bus drivers.
