“Quebec Truckers Stage Rush Hour Highway Protest to Demand Enhanced Road Safety”

Starting on September 22, truck drivers in Quebec are set to disrupt Monday morning rush hour traffic in various cities as part of a protest organized by a group named “Enough is Enough.” The aim of the protest is to push for increased monitoring of truckers to enhance safety for all road users. The plan is to cause traffic congestion between 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. during these Monday morning protests.

The group is advocating for stricter regulations and more oversight regarding working conditions and ensuring that trucking companies adhere to labor standards, with the ultimate goal of boosting road safety across Quebec. Reports from La Presse reveal that highway inspectors have not been conducting patrols since March, following an order from the Tribunal administratif du travail due to instances of assaults on inspectors during operations.

This protest comes in the wake of several tragic accidents involving heavy trucks in recent weeks. On August 25, a man lost his life in a collision with a heavy truck on Highway 50. The following day, another fatal accident occurred on Highway 20 involving a truck. Just two days later, a mother and her 5-year-old son tragically died in an accident involving a heavy truck on Highway 30.

More recently, a cyclist in Montreal was fatally struck by a heavy truck, and just yesterday, two individuals sustained injuries in a collision between a semi-truck and a vehicle on Highway 30.

Despite the Association du cammionage du Québec expressing support for the group’s demands, it has reportedly distanced itself from the upcoming demonstrations.
