Campaign Posters Begin to Appear as Quebec Municipal Election Season Gets Underway
Quebec municipalities are gearing up for the upcoming elections scheduled for November 2, with campaign posters starting to pop up across the province as the official electoral period commences.
A total of 1,100 municipalities will be holding elections on that day, presenting an exciting time for local democracy. Élections Québec has introduced some new initiatives for this election cycle to enhance voter participation.
Notably, presidents of the election in municipalities with 20,000 residents or more now have the option to extend voting at their office by four additional days. Moreover, an extra day of advance voting has been included, with the possibility of adding an advance voting day on Saturday, October 25, along with the already scheduled Sunday, October 26, advance voting day during that weekend.
In an effort to make voting more accessible, Élections Québec is rolling out a mobile voting team to assist residents with reduced mobility and those facing health-related challenges in getting to the polls.
Furthermore, pilot projects are being implemented in select municipalities, such as displaying candidate information and photos at polling stations and setting up child-friendly polling stations for kids aged 3 to 12 to learn about the electoral process.
In Montreal, an innovative approach will allow voters to cast their ballots on specific campuses, adding convenience for students and faculty members.
For individuals interested in running for office, the deadline to submit their candidacy for the upcoming election is October 3, so aspiring candidates are encouraged to act promptly.
