BC Ferries had to improvise on Saturday evening by deploying a water taxi due to a mechanical breakdown that halted all sailings between the Sunshine Coast and the mainland.
Scheduled sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale, spanning from 4:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., were canceled, leaving a multitude of travelers stranded.
The problem was identified by BC Ferries as a “mechanical difficulty with the vessel’s main engine.”
To address the situation, a 38-passenger water taxi was mobilized to commence service from 5:45 p.m. onwards until further notice, operating in Shuttle Mode, as announced on the company’s website.
Social media posts revealed the chaos and lengthy queues at both terminals as passengers grappled with the disruption.
BC Ferries swiftly redirected another vessel to facilitate additional sailings to and from the Sunshine Coast at specific times, with affected passengers reportedly informed about their alternatives.
In a statement to 1130 NewsRadio, the company reassured that its team is diligently working to rectify the problem at the earliest opportunity.
