The independent investigative body, Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), is currently looking into a recent police operation in Longueuil that tragically resulted in the death of an individual on Sunday.
As per the initial details provided by the BEI on Monday, officers from the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service (SPAL) swiftly responded to a report of armed individuals moving through a public area just before 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Following a 911 call received at 2:48 p.m., law enforcement officers were on the scene by 2:58 p.m. There, they encountered the armed group.
During the interaction, one person was wounded by gunfire. Immediate medical assistance was administered by the police until paramedics took over. Regrettably, the individual later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
The investigation is being handled by five BEI investigators with support from the Montreal Police (SPVM), as is standard protocol in cases involving civilian fatalities, severe injuries, or firearm incidents during police operations or detainment.
