Tragic Death of Teen in Longueuil: Investigators Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

Quebec’s police watchdog, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI), gave an update on their probe into a fatal police intervention in Longueuil that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy. During a press conference, BEI director Brigitte Bishop revealed that they had interviewed 15 witnesses, recovered seven videos of the incident, and seized a police firearm, a backpack, ski masks, and a baseball bat. The gun used by the officer is currently undergoing forensic analysis. Bishop expressed concerns about potential evidence contamination due to private investigations by witnesses and urged the public to come forward with any relevant information.

The tragic death of Nooran Rezayi sparked a gathering of mourning teenagers at the location where the incident occurred. Questions loom over the circumstances of the shooting, with community members and friends of the victim seeking answers. Initial reports suggest that the Longueuil Police responded to reports of armed individuals before the fatal encounter took place. The victim’s identity has not been officially confirmed, but the Marie-Victorin School Service Center acknowledged the loss of one of its students.

The incident unfolded as a group of teenagers, allegedly planning a video shoot, encountered law enforcement in the neighborhood. Following an interaction, shots were fired, leading to the teenager’s tragic demise. Emergency services arrived promptly, but the victim succumbed to injuries at the hospital. The BEI, supported by Montreal Police, is actively investigating the case, standard protocol for incidents involving police use of firearms resulting in injury or death.
