York Regional Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with a series of bank robberies in Vaughan, following a daring attempted heist this week. The suspect, identified as Carp Zveaghintev, is facing multiple charges linked to four robberies in the area.
The incident unfolded on Sept. 23 around 12:30 p.m. when police received reports of a robbery at a bank near Highway 7 West and Weston Road. Upon arrival, officers found a lone male suspect inside the bank, threatening employees and demanding money. Swift action by the police led to the suspect’s arrest without any harm.
During the arrest, it was discovered that the suspect was carrying a replica firearm and an imitation explosive device. Further investigation tied the suspect to three prior bank robberies that occurred on Feb. 5, April 21, and Sept. 22 at locations within the vicinity of Highway 7 West and Marycroft Avenue.
Carp Zveaghintev, a 50-year-old individual with no fixed address, has been charged with a range of offenses including robbery with a firearm, robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent, and use of an imitation firearm during a crime. Police have shared the suspect’s photo and are appealing to the public for any additional information on the case.
