Georgian College Announces Campus Consolidation Plan
Georgian College has made the decision to consolidate its campuses, closing the Orillia and Muskoka locations and merging them into the Barrie campus by the upcoming fall. The Board of Governors endorsed this move, which will see the Orillia campus shutter in summer 2026, with programs transitioning to Barrie in May, and the Muskoka campus closing in August 2026.
Kevin Weaver, President and CEO of Georgian College, acknowledged the impact on students, employees, and communities, emphasizing the decision’s long-term benefits for the college’s sustainability and student success during challenging times.
The college’s decision was based on a comprehensive assessment of efficiencies, enrollment, labor-market trends, community impact, and financial considerations. The consolidation is projected to save the college approximately $23.5 million over the next five years, with plans to sell the Orillia and Muskoka campuses, as well as the Orillia residence.
Importantly, officials assured that the consolidation will not disrupt graduation timelines or impede students’ ability to complete their programs as scheduled.
