Magdeleine Vallieres, a 24-year-old cyclist from Canada, achieved a remarkable victory at the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali. Representing the EF Education-Oatly team, Vallieres took the lead during the final climb of the challenging circuit and secured the women’s elite road race title.
This historic win marked Vallieres as the first Canadian woman to claim a world title in the road race discipline. Supported by her teammate, Alison Jackson, Vallieres displayed incredible determination and skill throughout the 164.6-kilometre race, crossing the finish line in four hours, 34 minutes, and 48 seconds.
Reflecting on her achievement, Vallieres expressed her disbelief and joy, stating, “It was my dream to win it, and it’s true now. It’s crazy.” She attributed her success to her team’s unwavering belief in her abilities and her own commitment to seizing the opportunity without any regrets.
In a closely contested race, Vallieres outpaced her rivals, with Niamh Fisher-Black from New Zealand finishing second, followed by Mavi Garcia from Spain. Vallieres strategically executed her decisive move on the final climb, recognizing the need to capitalize on her strengths to secure the win.
