Montreal police officer allegedly caught sleeping under Highway 40 may face disciplinary action

A uniformed police officer was allegedly caught sleeping on duty, raising concerns over misconduct and promoting internal investigation by Montreal police (SPVM).

The officer, assigned to neighborhood station 27, which covers the Ahuntsic district, is stationed under Highway 40, a location where police officers are often posted to monitor violations of the Highway Safety Code.

Photos from two different angles showing an SPVM police officer with his eyes closed and his head tilted while driving a stopped official vehicle have been circulating on social media since Friday.

SPVM told CityNews in a statement:

“This type of behaviour is not tolerated at the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). In accordance with internal procedures, the manager of the officer concerned will follow up to assess the situation. If circumstances warrant, disciplinary action may be taken in accordance with current policies. The SPVM remains fully committed to ensuring that its police officers maintain high professional standards in the performance of their duties.”
