A cinema in Oakville, which recently fell victim to an arson attack, is now facing another blow as shots were fired at the establishment, according to Halton police.
The latest incident occurred during the early hours of Thursday, when an unidentified suspect approached Film.ca Cinemas and fired several rounds through the entrance doors using a handgun.
The suspect, described as a male with a dark complexion and a heavyset build, was clad in all-black attire and wore a black face mask during the shooting.
The arson attack took place on September 25, with two individuals using a flammable substance to set fire to the exterior entrance doors of the cinema.
Security footage released by the cinema captured the suspects, dressed in black and donning surgical masks, pouring what seemed to be gasoline at the cinema entrance before setting it ablaze.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either incident, both of which transpired during the late-night hours.
Following the shooting incident, cinema management released a statement attributing the events to the screening of South Asian films.
As a precautionary measure, the cinema announced the cancellation of two upcoming film screenings and the discontinuation of all future South Asian film showings.
While asserting that they do not intend to yield to threats, the cinema emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of patrons and staff amid escalating tensions within the South Asian film industry.
